Ciao di Venezia! We began things with getting stranded in New York, our flight from Chicago not arriving before the Rome flight departed. But we had a lovely evening and following day with Dipali in the beautiful part of New Jersey.
Roma was molto bene. The bed & breakfast we lined up was certainly a slice of Roman culture--basic, English not spoken, sharing the building with private apartments. Having already lost a day, we wasted no time in seeing the sights we wanted to see. Absolutely outstanding. In order to overcome jetlag the first evening, we signed ourselves up to see the Orchestra al Femminile Le Muse performing Mozart (k414, k136, k137, k138, e op.525) in a walled courtyard, the center of what was once a church. Really fantastic and only made possible by a European energy drink called Burn, which I found down the street in the convenience store. In spite of the Burn, we each dozed a bit during the more lulling parts.
Now we're in bella Venezia and enjoying the sights and gelati and trying to communicate with everyone in a strange language called Italian-Accented-and-Slightly-Transformed-Spanish as a proxy for real Italian, which actually works out pretty well.
Also, it's wicked hot here: apparently the heat blew up from Africa, a very hot place. Anyway, probably good conditioning for us before heading to the Middle East.
Espaghettios!

Honey,
It is SO WONDERFUL to hear from you! Italy sounds so fun and you both must be loving it! I'm glad you're dressed for warm weather. We are leaving in about an hour for the lake, but will have Dad's computer there so will stay in touch. SUPER. Peter is joining us Tuesday/Wednesday when he and Dad might put in the rock leading to the front door. Our weather here at home has been gorgeous--low to middle 80s and perfect humidity. The July 4th weekend sounds perfect too. We miss you. I played 9 holes of golf this morning in the 9-holers league. My 74 is shameful, but I love being with the ladies, so I accept my situation with humility and move on. Give our love to Sole. I'm sure she would be a great traveling companion and friend. Lucky you, Paul.
Love, Mom xxxx
P.S. I am giving up alcohol 'til you come back home safe and sound, which will be good for me and you.

Glad to hear that you made it, dear brother. Hopefully you will be updating your blog, often -- great idea, btw. Can't wait for the pictures to begin! Mom, why are you giving up alcohol?
