Anne Frank Huis; back to Stockholm for Emma and Erik's party

Sara and I got lunch very near her place and grabbed a table outside to take advantage of the phenomenal weather. Then we went to the Anne Frank Museum. Waited an hour to do the tour but it was well worth it. I had forgotten (or maybe never knew) that Anne and Margot were survived by their father Otto, who also was imprisoned in a concentration camp but survived and was liberated by the Soviets. When he returned to Amsterdam he learned of their deaths and also received Anne's diary from his secretary Miep. Once he could bring himself to it, he read her manuscripts, edited them and sent them for publication. He also gave input into the museum and appears at the end of the tour in a video, reflecting on Anne. It was very interesting and moving and quite well done (renovated and expanded in 1999). After this, we returned to her place and I gathered my things and Sara walked me to the train station. I caught a flight back to Stockholm, took the Arlanda Express back to Stockholm C and checked into a hostel with a surly staff but some nice backpackers. That night I attended Emma and Erik's going-away party where they served everything in the cabinets that they wouldn't be bringing to London (plus ice cream sundaes). A great group of friends they have and gracious hosts they are*. I was very happy to be included. A fun night.

* these were two prime candidates for the foiled U.S. Adoption Plan.
